Theory of Change

Believing a habit of life time starts when we are young our project places Children as change agents. Schools are important links to reaching individual families and communities. Children pass on their knowledge of hygiene behavior practice from schools to their families and thus influence the community. The habit is strengthened through repetition as we go through our daily lives. Hygiene Behavior is a function of many factors namely Availability of water supply, hygiene facilities, altitude and appropriate Knowledge.

Knowledge on Hygiene is imparted to school children through existing school curriculum and health education provided by local health professionals. Behavior of school children may not be possible to change if enabling factors such as water supply and other elements of hygiene are inadequate or lacking.

Enabling technologies are some of the external or environmental factors that influence individual opportunity to perform a behavior regardless of their ability and motivation to take action. The success of establishing hand washing routines in a community vitally depends on how attractive the facilities are designed and installed. With our pedal foot operated hand washing stations we strongly believe children are attracted to this new innovation and thus practice regularly hand washing behavior. Furthermore our low cost solution for hand washing made from local available materials that can be scaled easily, foster community engagement and ownership thus ensures project sustainability.
